Student Clubs & Activities

All approved extracurricular clubs and organizations are required to perform one service project each semester that is outside of the normal club activities. The organizations whose sole purpose is competition or publication are exempted from this requirement.

Anyone wishing to begin or restart a new club, change your current club sponsor, or add an additional sponsor needs to see Ms Britt or Ms. Couvillon.

Academic Team: Competition - Students with all different interests, from the arts and sports to math and science, are invited to participate. The team competes on COX Cable against the other area teams. Academic Team competes at academic tournaments locally and across the state. Please see Ms. Stone, room 248, for requirements. We meet on Tuesday and Thursday 2:00 - 3:00.
All American Dolls: Class Activity - Performance dance team. Performs and competes with the band; tryouts in the spring.
Art Club: Interest - Open to all students who have previously taken or are currently enrolled in Art. Meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month; Mrs. Brinkerhoff, sponsor.
Band: Class Activity - Performs at pep rallies, football game halftime shows, concerts, competitions and community events; Mr. Folsom, Director; Mr. Farr, Asst. Director. See www.fwbhs-band.com
Beach Volleyball - Provides an opportunity for students to have fun on the beach; Mrs. Holman, sponsor
Beta Club: Honor - Promotes community service; open to sophomores, juniors and seniors; contact sponsor Mrs. Chalender for eligibility; meets 1st and 3rd Mondays at 1:55 p.m.
Color Guard/Winter Guard: Class Activity - In association with the band, members drill, perform, dance and compete with rifles, sabers and flags; tryouts in the spring; Mr. Folsom, sponsor.
Environmentally Conscious Youth: Interest - promotes an interest in preserving and protecting the environment; meets Mondays at 1:55 p.m.; Mrs. Grant, sponsor.
FCA - Interest - Fellowship of Christian Athletes - To present to athletes and coaches and all whom they influence the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church; meets 1st and 3rd Mondays; Coach Owens, sponsor.
First Priority: Interest - For students interested in coming together as Christians to share devotions, testimonies, worship and fellowship; meets Thursdays at 1:55 p.m.; Mrs. Sudbery, sponsor.
Forensics: Competition - Members compete in speech and debate; see Mrs. Kroeger, sponsor for eligibility; meets 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 1:55 p.m.
French Club: Honor - The purpose is to promote an understanding, awareness, and appreciation of the French language and its cultures. Meets on Tuesday every other week at 1:55 p.m.; Sponsor: Ms. Saxer.
German Honor: Honor - The purpose is to promote an understanding, awareness, and appreciation of the German language and its cultures. Meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 1:55 p.m.; see Ms. Warner, sponsor, for eligibility.
Interact Club: Service - The club promotes the development of leadership skills and community service; meeting day and time TBA; Mr. Rackley, sponsor.
Inter-Club Council: Honor - membership made up of presidents and other officers of each club and organization on campus; meets 1st Tuesday of each month in the media center; Mrs. Britt, sponsor.
International Thespian Society: Honor - Provides a forum for students who have excelled in theatre arts, both behind the scenes or on stage; meets 1st and 3rd Thursdays; see Mrs. Whittaker, sponsor, for eligibility.
Key Club: Service - The oldest and largest service program for high school students, Key Club is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others; meets Thursdays at 1:55 pm.; Mrs. Thetford and Mrs. Sheffield, sponsors.
Kitty Hawk: Honor - The JAFROTC honor society's purpose is to promote academic excellence and community service; meets Tuesdays at 1:55 p.m.; Col. Stewart and Chief Chambers, sponsors.
Leadership: Class Activity - Students produce pep rallies in addition to many Viking Outreach community service activities; meets daily as a class; Mrs. Britt, sponsor.
Minority Council: Interest - Provides tutors for elementary school age children in reading and math; meets 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 2:00 p.m.; Mrs. Chadwell, sponsor
Mu Alpha Theta: Competition - Students participate in math competitions. See Mrs. Pollard, sponsor, for eligibility; meets Tuesdays at 1:55 p.m.
National Honor Society: Honor - NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character; students are invited to apply for membership; members selected by panel of teachers; meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:30 a.m.; Mrs. Pearson and Mrs. Bowell, sponsors. Odyssey of the Mind: Competition - Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics; meets Tuesdays at 1:55 p.m.; Ms. Stone, room 248, sponsor.
Optimist Club: Service - Members participate in numerous community service activities throughout the year; meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays; Mrs. Eaton, sponsor.
SADD: Service - Students Against Destructive Decisions provides students with prevention and intervention tools to deal with issues of underage drinking, drunk driving, drug abuse, and other destructive behaviors; meets Wednesdays at 1:55 p.m.; Mr. Keeler, sponsor.
Sailing Team: Interest - Members learn and practice both recreational and competitive sailing techniques; meets Tuesdays and Thursdays after school; Ms. Stone, room 248, sponsor.
Science National Honor Society: Honor - Students who share an interest in science and explore career opportunities and promote the sciences through organizing the science fair; meets 1st and 3rd Thursdays; see Mrs. Marez or Ms. Stewart, for eligibility.
Spanish Honor: Honor - The purpose is to promote an understanding, awareness, and appreciation of the Spanish language and its cultures; meets 2nd and 3rd Thursdays at 1:55 p.m.; see Mrs. Morales, sponsor, for eligibility.
Spirit Club: Service - Members promote the Viking Spirit throughout the year at various sports events; meets every Monday at 1:55 p.m.; Mrs. Britt, sponsor.

Step Team: Interest - Students practice and perform step routines during pep rallies and community events; no tryout required; meets Thursdays at 1:55 p.m.; Ms. Hinojosa, sponsor.
Student Council: Service - Members plan and direct activities such as the homecoming dance and Teacher Appreciation; meets Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m.; Ms. Cagan-Stafford, sponsor
SWAT: Service - Students Working Against Tobacco; meets 1st Monday at 1:55 p.m.; Mrs. Russell, sponsor.
Teenage Republicans: Interest - Provides a forum for students interested in current events and political issues; meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays; Ms. Fister, sponsor.
Ultimate Frisbee: Interest - Provides an opportunity for students to learn and play the game of Ultimate Frisbee; meeting time TBA; Mr. Williams, sponsor.
Video Club: Interest - Provides an opportunity for students to learn more about video production; students do not have to be enrolled in the class to participate in the club; meeting time TBA; Mr. McMillin, sponsor.
Viking Ladies: Service - Members serve as hostesses at various events such as receptions, scholarship signings, and Senior Appreciation; meets 1st Thursdays at 1:55 p.m; Mrs. Britt, sponsor.
Voices of Valhalla: Class Activity - Premier choral performance group.
Wheelettes: Service - Social and service group performs community service while sharing fellowship; meets Wednesdays at 6:35 a.m.; Ms. Stewart, sponsor.
Young Democrats of America: Interest - Provides a forum for students interested in current events and political issues; meets 2nd Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.; Mrs. Lucas, sponsor.
Youth in Government (Hi-Y Alpha): Interest - Prepares young people for responsible leadership in the American democratic process by providing guidance, training, and experience in the theory and practice of determining public policy; meets Tuesdays at 1:55 p.m.; Mrs. Lingerfelt, sponsor.
