Excellence Without Exception

An important goal of Ft. Walton Beach High School is to provide opportunities for all students to be successful, lifelong learners. Central to a student's success in high school is the abillity to read competently and independently. Of course, we hope the student enjoys the experience and seeks any opportunity to sit down with a good book.

Students in English Honors, Pre-AP and AP classes are required to read over the summer. Below are links to the summer reading lists for each of the grade levels.

Class of 2013 English 1 Honors/PreAP

Class of 2012 English 2 Honors/PreAP

Class of 2011 English 3 Honors - Story Map

Class of 2011 English 3 AP Language and Composition

Class of 2010 English 4 Honors

While not required for students in other English classes, we encourage all students to read throughout the summer. The Florida Teens Read choices for 2010 reflect the interests of high school students, and represent a variety of genres, formats, reading levels, viewpoints, and ethnic and cultural perspectives. Some of the selections deal with more mature subject matter which allows teens to get a glimpse of how others deal with problems and to feel less alone in our complex world.
